Featured: The Inception of Jason’s Brief
Three sentence version: Jason’s Brief is my weekly notes on tech and law to support your life journey of betterment as a human being. It consists of a 500-word featured article, highlights on law, technology, and betterment, and one question for you. Here, we make our journey of betterment less tortuous together.
Here is the full story. I read for fun and work, but I don’t write much. More specifically, I don’t write long pieces in English frequently, at least not as often as I could shamelessly claim myself a writer. In 2021, I wrote 364 articles in mandarin. Now, I want to embrace a new writing challenge as 2023 is approaching. I will write in English this time, but I also write with a larger group of readers in mind. To reach a more broad readership, I am supposed to write something valuable and absorbing so your time is well spent. However, I also have to write something I care about so I can keep writing. Balancing both is the art.
So my preliminary inquiry is what I care about most. For one thing, I am interested in technology development and relevant regulatory regimes. In particular, I believe that the potential of web3 may have a paradigm shift in our daily life, to the extent that "MANAMANA" has changed the way we live. That being said, I will also take a bird's eye view of politics and technology and because politics and technology alike will shape our society, for better or worse.
On top of technology and law, another topic that always catches my attention is "betterment." Betterment is sometimes based on new tech, but not always. Betterment, for me, is more about the mindset. A growth mindset, a resilient attitude from setbacks and failure, and the mamba spirit determined to become the best version of oneself. Thus, Jason's Brief is a vehicle serving three purposes: (1) it is my betterment journey for writing and learning in technology, law, and humanity; (2) it helps your personal development and supports your own journey of betterment by sharing psychological studies, practical tips, or insights from great minds, and (3) it connects us because we will grow together through my writing and your feedback.
Public commitment is a half cure for writing procrastination, and the action is the other half. I hope you enjoy reading my Brief. Stay tuned, and I’ll see you next Wednesday.
Highlights Worth Your time
Betterment:
The article "How to become an expert" by Professor Roger L Kneebone gives you the compass you need to become an expert through three stages: Apprentice, Journeyman, and Master.
You have been told too many times that practicing gratitude can increase your happiness and that writing a diary can boost your productivity and prioritize your day. Now you can do both in six minutes every day. I have been writing my diary since I inadvertently found UrBestSelf's six-minute Diary during my mid-Fall Festival vacation.
Technology and Web3 Regulations
Though Jason’s Brief will highlight some crypto news and development, you may find Messari’s source of crypto information helpful.
If you found US regulation on crypto too complex to keep track of, the Block's work can be a time saver for you.
Law & Politics:
At the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, Xi vows never to renounce the use of force to reunify with Taiwan, along with a recap of what the CCP and Chinese people have achieved and his forward-looking remarks. Some believe that a more centralized China becomes weaker but more dangerous. (The Economist); meanwhile, the British police began investigating an incident, in which a Hong Kong protester was dragged into Chinese consulate grounds and beaten up. (Reuters)
Latter better than never: Taiwan Government finally (though partially) reopened its border and eased its covid quarantine mandate.
One Question this Week
How would you evaluate your property or price your service if you cannot rely on any national currency (even indirectly)?
